Hey All!

For May I’ve decided to take part in the Asian Readathon hosted by readwithcindy. This readathon takes place during Asian heritage month and aims to diversify your reads, and promote Asian authors and stories.

This feels especially important to take place in now, with increased racist attacks being directed toward Asian communities during the covid-19 pandemic.

Challenges:

1. Read any book by any Asian author
2. Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author you can relate to. Example: if you’re a woman read a book by a woman, if you’re queer read a book by a queer author or featuring a queer character etc.
3. Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author whose different from you. Example: If you’re not an immigrant read a story by an immigrant or featuring an immigrant etc.
4. Read a book recommend by an Asian. This can be recommended by one of your friends, or an Asian blogger or booktuber.
5. (OPTIONAL) Read ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ by Celeste Ng and participate in The Little Fires Readalong and Watchalong.
6. TWIST: You are able to combine challenges so you can read one book for three challenges if it meets all the criteria, but if that book is by a Malaysian author then for your next read choose one by an author of a different ethnicity to ensure your reads are diversified.

The challenges I believe have been simplified this year due to the coronavirus and therefore people’s reduced access to books. However, I have connected my library card to an app called ‘RBdigital and have been able to borrow ebooks from my library on there, I don’t know if this works outside of the UK, but I’m also pretty sure Libby provides the same services for those in the US.
