Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Summer TBR

This week I’ve decided to take part in ‘Top Ten Tuesday’ again hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is ‘books on my Summer 2020 TBR’.

Summer is fast approaching – even though you wouldn’t be able to tell from the weather here in England – and so are all my Summer reading plans! Every Summer I have a similar list of books I want to read, and it’s often quite rare for me to ever complete that list or make any real changes to it. I have also not included every book I have on my June TBR on this list in risk of repeating myself and being boring, but those are also books I plan to read this Summer.

I would also like to note I am aware this is not the most diverse of lists, but with the exception of a few books on this list all of these are books I have owned for a while and would like to read. My shelves are not as diverse as they should be, and I will be diversifying them in the coming months but that will take time and money (which I don’t have an abundance of currently), so I am mainly working with what I have. I am still trying to diversify my reads and do better as a reader, but currently I don’t the financial means to do this swiftly.

Regardless of all of that, here is my reading list for Summer!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I know, I know, it’s shameful I haven’t read this yet – trust me, I’m embarrassed to admit it. This book is on my summer reading list every year and for some reason I never seem to get around to it, I’m not sure why that is but I am determined to read it this year.

Becoming by Michelle Obama

This was on my summer reading list last year, and I never got round to it! I can’t remember why I didn’t start it last Summer now but I’m definitely going to read it this year. I am really looking forward to this because everyone who reads this seems to love it, and I have always been really intrigued by Michelle Obama.

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

This re-read has been on my summer reading list the last couple of years, I think I read it when I was sixteen or so and it’s been a while since then. I really enjoyed this the first time round, and I’m hoping I enjoy the second time round too.

Turtle Under Ice by Juleah del Rosario

Whilst the premise of this doesn’t make this sound like the most suited read to Summer, I am going to listen to the audiobook for this in the coming months. I want to listen to this partly as it’s on of my books I’m reading for my ‘Buzzfeed Recommends‘ series, but also because the premise sounds different from my other reads I want to get to this Summer.

The Near Witch by V. E. Schwab

I am slowly but surely reading every Schwab book in existence, and this one is the next on the list. I am excited to read Schwab’s debut novel as I love her later stuff so much, and I want to see how her writing has evolved throughout the years.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

I know a ot of people have a a lot of feelings about Maas, and I respect that. However, I like her books as they’re fantasy and fun and it’s a little bit like watching reality TV for me – I don’t need to think, I can just read and enjoy. So I want to read this this Summer to balance out some of the ‘heavier’ reads I might be getting round to.

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang

My copy of this hasn’t arrived yet but I am so excited to get my hands on it! I’ve heard so many good things about this series, and I can’t wait to start it and see what all the hype is about. Hopefully, it will live up to all my expectations.

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I remember finding this book based on a blogger’s recommendation, and I’m really sorry but I can’t remember who it was now! This sounds incredible, the reviews for it are incredible, and the cover (and I know I shouldn’t judge it by it’s cover) suggest it’s going to be incredible. I’m very excited for this Summer read and I know I’ll definitely be picking it up very soon.

The Water Dance by Ta-Nehisi

This book is one of the books on my June TBR this year. I am really excited to read this, as I’ve watched a lot of videos of the author and he’s brilliant in every single one, and the reviews for his non-fiction books are pretty good too. This is his first piece of fiction and I’m intrigued to see what he’s done with it.

The Truants by Kate Weinberg

This is Waterstone’s ‘Fiction Book of The Month’ pick for June, and as I do a series based on this I need to read this book to review it. I am looking forward to this as it’s sold as ‘The Secret History’ meets Agatha Christie which sounds incredible. I know I will get to this soon so be on the look out for a book review!

    1. I loved it when I first read I’ll Give You The Sun too, hoping I love it just as much this time round. IT’s nice to know I’m not the only one with so many brilliant books on their TBR, I hope you get round to those three books soon! Happy reading:)

Omg I’m SO excited that you’re getting to read Shadow of the Wind and Pride and Prejudice for the first time 😍 Both books are part of my all time favourite reads and I really hope you enjoy them! I’m also really keen to read some of these on here and I feel like I’ll Give You the Sun has been on my TBR for ages 😅 Happy reading!

  11. What a great list! Oh, I hope you get to P&P. I used to read it once a year, but I haven’t done that recently. It’s such a great classic. So many others on your list are on my tbr, too. The Shadow of the Wind and The Truants and I’ll Give You the Sun. Hopefully we can both enjoy them soon!
