WWW Wednesday: 28th July 2020

WWW Wednesday is currently hosted by Taking On A World of Words, and asks three simple questions that allows me to chat about what I’m reading, as well as my most recent and upcoming reads!

What are you currently reading?

Yes I am still reading ‘The Poppy War’ and I swear I’m still enjoying it! It’s just I don’t have a lot of time at the moment so I haven’t been making much headway on it, but after tomorrow I think I may be able to just binge read it.

I can see why everyone hypes up ‘Becoming’ – it’s a fantastic book. At the moment I have nothing more to say about it other than: incredible, fantastic, beautiful, amazing.

‘A Love Hate Thing’ is such a strange read for me, there is something about this story that irritates me and I can’t figure out what it is. I’m going to keep powering through the audiobook though and I have a long drive tomorrow so I should be able to listen to quite a lot of it then.

What have you just finished reading?

I haven’t had a great reading week but I’ve also been very busy so I’m not surprised by this. I’m glad I finished ‘A Heart in a Body in the World’ this week though as it was great. It explored so much relating to trauma and recover,y but also how women are treated in a wider sense with discourse surrounding victim blaming. This book made me emotional but it also motivated me and filled me with hope, it struck a perfect balance.

I acquired an arc copy of ‘Titan’ through Netgallery and it was a nice short read. The art style for this graphic novel was nice as it only used pink, white and black tones to tell the story, which was in contrast to the quite graphic scenes (some including violence). I thought it offered an intriguing look at capitalism and workers rights but also on the horror of war, yet I do think it could have been longer as some parts of it felt rushed.

What are you planning on reading next?

Other than a lot of arcs on Netgallery that I need to make my way through, I also want to start ‘The Nickel Boys’ and ‘Heart of Mist’ sometime soon – hopefully before next Wednesday.
