WWW Wednesday: 5th January 2022 (the long overdue one)

WWW Wednesday is currently hosted by Taking On A World of Words, and asks three simple questions that allows me to chat about what I’m reading, as well as my most recent and upcoming reads!

The last few weeks have not been great reading weeks for me because of the holiday season, I’m always too busy at that time of year to read as much as I want to, so unfortunately that is reflected in this WWW Wednesday edition. However, I’m reading some books at the moment I’m excited about, and the ones on my TBR sound fantastic so fingers crossed January starts the year off well!

What have you read recently?

So, these are all the books I’ve read since I last made a WWW Wednesday, which is really not many at all. The Moonstone Girls and Safety In Numbers are two arcs I picked up from Netgallery, I found myself enjoying the former more than I expected, and the latter just didn’t do it for me, I couldn’t get into it – mini reviews for them will be up soon! The Familiars was a really strange book for me, I devoured some parts, and others left me feeling a bit bored and they dragged, I think it suffered from not being a YA as it felt very YA-esque, but it did have it’s redeeming features. The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil is my favourite read of them all, a really interesting graphic novel with great symbolism that I devoured in one sitting, if you’re looking for a new standalone graphic novel pick it up!

What are you currently reading?

Conjure Women is my current ebook read and I’m really enjoying it, every time I pick it up I found myself sucked back into that world and desperate to learn more about it, there are so many mysteries and unanswered questions, I just need them to be fully revealed so I can be in on the secrets too.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue has probably been sitting on my TBR for over a year now so it’s about time I picked it up! To be truthful, I’m about a third of the way through it at the moment and I’m not sure where I sit with this book, it hasn’t sucked me in like most other books by Schwab has, and I feel a distinct lack of something – can’t tell you what it is yet, but it’s definitely not there currently.

For my final book I’m finally picking up Hood Feminism as part of my 2022 reading resolutions, as I want to read more non-fiction books this year. I’m not very far in yet but I’m really glad to see this is written in an accessible language and a strong voice, and I’m certain I’m going to come away having learnt something.

I had to put She Who Became The Sun down over Christmas as I just didn’t have the time to dedicate my attention my attention to it, but I’m hoping over the next week I’ll have enough free time to pick this bad boy up again as I desperately want to read more.

I’m hoping I’ll finally get to Starve Acre this month, as it’s been sitting there waiting to be read for far too long. I’m planning on it being my next work read so fingers crossed that happens!

  1. Oh, I’m so glad to see you enjoyed The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil! I love that graphic novel and have tried to get so many people to read it, but I think the title scares some people away. But while the title may seem silly, the story itself is just so good!

    1. To be honest I only picked it up on a whim in Waterstones and I’m really glad I did! I think it’s one I might need to shout about for a while too to convince people to pick up and read
