WWW Wednesday: 12th January 2022 (the I’m already exhausted one)

WWW Wednesday is currently hosted by Taking On A World of Words, and asks three simple questions that allows me to chat about what I’m reading, as well as my most recent and upcoming reads!

The first full week of January has been a long one, university work has been a lot and work has been a lot too, everything is a lot. I am exhausted already, and I hope you guys aren’t too tired as well, but things are looking up for the rest of January so hopefully next week will be a different one.

What have you read recently?

Unfortunately, for me, I didn’t fall in love with Addie LaRue like everyone else did, and it breaks my heart. I usually loves Schwab’s books, with the exception of a couple, and not loving this one came as a bit of a shock to me. I just didn’t connect with the characters and I found the romance a bit stale, there was just nothing that I loved in it, a review is coming soon to discuss this!

Now, a book that didn’t disappoint me was Conjure Women which was just as good as I was hoping it would, it captured me from the very start and it didn’t let me go until the very end. The characters and the mysteries contained in this were all fascinating, and If you’re looking for your next magical realism read this could be it.

What are you currently reading?

I’m finally back to reading She Who Becomes The Sun and I’m so excited! I think this will take me a while to get through but I’m looking forward to every second of it. I’m sure I’m going to get to points in this where I’m not going to want to put it down, but I’m going to have to learn some self-control as I have a lot of work to do this week.

Hood Feminism is proving to be a very insightful read, I’m getting through it quite slowly but that’s fine, I rarely read non-fiction at any other than a snail’s pace. I’ve just finished the chapter Hunger which was hard in the fact I had to face up to some classicism I didn’t know I had, and it also raised very interesting points on policies surrounding food and health I had not considered before.

One Upon A River is my current work read, I’m not very far through it yet but I’m liking the vibe, and I’m sure I will continue to enjoy this.

What do you plan on reading next?

I think it should be obvious by now that I rarely ever stick to these plans, but Out Front the Following Sea is an arc I received via Netgallery I need to read soon, and The Best Short Stories is just something I’m very anxious to get to soon.

  1. I hope the rest of January eases up and is less exhausting for you! Even though Addie LaRue was one of my most anticipated reads when it came out, I’ve kept putting it off cos I’m worried it’ll fall flat for me? Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy it! Hope you do continue to enjoy your current and future reads 😊

    1. Thank you! Honestly, Addie LaRue seems to be one of those books which really works for some people and not for others, but there are far more people who love it than don’t so don’t give up hope yet! Thank you:)

  2. We all are different readers and there have been plenty of books that were so hyped and I didn’t love them! I’m sorry that you didn’t love Addie. I’ve seen so many mixed reviews on, She Who Became the Sun. I look forward to your review and hope you enjoy it when you find the time. 🙂
