WWW Wednesday: 19th January 2022 (the one with the books I’ll never finish)

WWW Wednesday is currently hosted by Taking On A World of Words, and asks three simple questions that allows me to chat about what I’m reading, as well as my most recent and upcoming reads!

This week has been bitterly cold for me at work, often getting to below freezing in the building I work in! Plus, it’s been a crazy week with uni for me as I have a couple of assessments coming up, and I already feel like I’m behind again, and for that reason there’s been little progress with my reading this week (and I fear this will be the case next week too).

What have you read recently?

It took me a while to get started Once Upon A River, but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I finished this in a rush last night, desperate to get all my answers and I was not disappointed. Whilst this was slow to start it was an easily captivating read and took hold of me once I had got through the beginning, but I will say if you’re not a fan of slow starts and lots of descriptive imagery this is not for you.

The Sci-Fi Shorts Anthology is an arc I acquired through Netgallery, it contains 60 short stories all limited to 500 words. I’m going through a phase of loving short stories at the moment so I picked this up and was excited to see what it contained for me. In the end, after giving all 60 stories a rating, the average rating came out as about 3.2 out of 5 which isn’t too bad, there were some excellent stories and sci-fi premises in here, and others not so great. I will post a review on this soon.

What are you currently reading?

I feel like I’ve been reading these two books forever. I’ve made such little progress on She Who Became The Sun it’s not even worth updating you on, and I’m not sure how much more I’ll be able to read as I have assessments over the next week and a half. However, I am now almost halfway through Hood Feminism and aim to hopefully finish it within the next week.

What are you planning on reading next?

Ariadne is one of the books I want to get to this year, it’s in my 22 books for 2022 list so hopefully I can start it this month. My pre-ordered copy of The Twyford Code also just arrived and I’m really excited to be reading more from Hallett, so I’m thinking I’ll save this as post-assessment reward (how sad is that?)

  1. I’m looking forward to trying Once Upon A River! I’ve heard it’s slow-moving but I’m intrigued by her writing, will just have to make sure I’m in the right reading mood for it. Good luck with your assessments and enjoy reading whenever you can!
